Write it **pretty**.
Keep it *plain*.
Prosedown is a fast, lightweight Markdown editor and viewer. Your documents look like they came out of a word processor — but underneath it's honest plain text, one tab away.

Trip notes — Kyoto
The bamboo grove at dawn, before the crowds arrive.
- Fushimi Inari at sunrise
- Tea at Ippodo
- Buy washi paper near Nishiki
The temple bell stops — but the sound keeps coming.
Small app. Sharp tools.
Export to PDF & Word
Export a polished PDF with selectable text and working links, or a real Word document with proper headings, lists, tables, and equations. Ctrl+P still prints.
Math & diagramsNew in 1.6
Write LaTeX equations with a live preview and a palette of symbols, and flowcharts or timelines as Mermaid diagrams. Both are drawn right in your document.
Truly WYSIWYG
Headings, bold, lists, tables, and links render like a word processor — and you edit the styled text directly. Click a link to open it, right-click a word for spelling suggestions. No split-screen squinting.
Code, one tab away
Flip to raw Markdown whenever you want. Edit in either view; they're always the same document.
Dark & light themes
A proper dark mode — editor, chrome, even the Windows title bar. Follows your OS or flips with one click, and remembers your choice.
Live writing stats
Words, characters, and reading time tick along in the status bar as you type. Know when your README stops being a quick read.
Tabs for days
Open as many documents as you like, each in its own tab with its own history. Recent files are one click away, and if a sync service or another program changes an open file, Prosedown asks before reloading it.
Feather-light
A 10 MB download that starts instantly and idles around 50 MB of RAM. Your laptop fan will not know it's running.
Offline & private
No account. No cloud. No telemetry. Your files stay on your machine, in plain Markdown, forever portable.

Software you can vouch for.
Installing a small developer's app takes trust. Here's ours, itemized — and verifiable before you run anything.
Digitally signed, verified publisher
Every release is code-signed through Microsoft's Azure Trusted Signing after a government-ID identity check. When you run the installer, Windows names the publisher — it will never say “Unknown publisher”.
No bundleware, ever
The installer installs Prosedown. No toolbars, no “offers”, no background services, no browser extensions. Uninstall cleanly from Windows Settings in one click.
Your documents never leave your machine
There is no cloud, no account, and no telemetry in the app. It only goes online to check your unlock code when you activate, to see whether a new version is out (which you can switch off), and to download an update when you click Update now.
Payments handled by Stripe
Checkout runs entirely on Stripe — the same processor used by Amazon and Shopify. Your card number never touches our servers.
30-day money-back guarantee
Try it free for 14 days first. If you buy and change your mind within 30 days, email us and we refund it. No forms, no hoops.
A real person answers
Prosedown is built and supported by its developer. Questions, bugs, refunds: support@prosedown.com gets read by a human.
A stylized look at what Windows actually shows you. A named, verified publisher — malware doesn't sign its work with a government-checked identity.
Seeing “Windows protected your PC”?
That's Microsoft Defender SmartScreen. It flags any download that hasn't yet been installed by lots of Windows users. It's a popularity check, not a virus detection. Reputation builds up as more people download a file, so a small developer's new release can trigger it for a while even when it's properly signed.
- Click More info.
- Check that the publisher reads Frank Buchner.
- Click Run anyway.
If the publisher says Unknown publisher or any other name, don't run it. Delete the file and download it again from prosedown.com. Microsoft Edge may also say the file “isn't commonly downloaded”. Choose ⋯ → Keep → Keep anyway. It's the same check, and the fix is the same.
Microsoft Defender SmartScreen prevented an unrecognized app from starting. Running this app might put your PC at risk.
Try it free. Own it for less than lunch.
- Every feature, fully unlocked

Fair questions.
Is it safe to install?
Yes — and you don't have to take our word for it. The installer is code-signed via Microsoft's Azure Trusted Signing, so the Windows security prompt shows a verified publisher identity instead of “Unknown publisher”. You can right-click the .exe → Properties → Digital Signatures to inspect the certificate yourself. Because the app is still building download reputation, SmartScreen may show a one-time notice on new releases — the signature and publisher name it displays are still fully verified.
Windows says “Windows protected your PC”. What do I do?
That's SmartScreen being cautious about newer downloads, not a virus warning. Click “More info”, confirm the publisher is Frank Buchner, then click “Run anyway”. If it shows “Unknown publisher” or a different name, don't run it — download a fresh copy from prosedown.com instead.
Do you collect any data?
The app contains no analytics, no telemetry, and no crash reporters. Your documents are never uploaded anywhere. Prosedown only goes online for two things: a one-time validation of your unlock code when you activate a purchase, and a check for new versions, which sends nothing but the app’s version number and can be switched off. Clicking Update now then downloads the installer from prosedown.com. The website only uses analytics if you allow it in the cookie banner — the privacy statement (linked in the footer) has the details.
What happens after the 14-day trial?
Prosedown starts asking for an unlock code. Buy one for $9.99 — it's a one-time purchase, not a subscription. Enter it once and the app is yours for good, updates included.
How do updates work?
Prosedown asks prosedown.com for the latest version when it starts and once a day while it runs, sending only its own version number. When a new one is out, click Update now: the app downloads the installer, checks it against the fingerprint published here, installs it and reopens with your documents. That works from every Windows copy of Prosedown, and you can switch the check off in the Updates window.
Which platforms does it run on?
Windows 10 and 11. macOS and Linux versions are on the way. One unlock code covers your personal machines.
Will it mangle my existing Markdown files?
Your files are plain .md text and stay that way. Styled Mode saves the Markdown as you wrote it — line breaks, HTML tags, footnotes, front matter and your list style included — and if a save would rewrite something it can't show, Prosedown asks first. Flip to Code Mode any time to see exactly what's on disk.
What if it's not for me?
The trial is fully functional for two weeks, so you'll know before paying a cent. If you buy and regret it within 30 days, email support@prosedown.com for a refund.
Your next README deserves better.
Free for 14 days. 10 MB. Signed. Gone in one uninstall if it's not for you.
