Markdown guide · Getting started
Styled Mode and Code Mode
Two views of the same document: formatted, or the raw Markdown underneath.
Styled Mode shows the formatted document. Use the toolbar or shortcuts and Prosedown writes the Markdown for you. Code Mode shows the raw text, symbols and all. Switch with the Styled and Code tabs at the top right; edits in one appear in the other.
- Write and read in Styled Mode. It's the everyday view.
- Use Code Mode to check exactly what's in the file, to paste Markdown from elsewhere, or for syntax Styled Mode doesn't offer a button for.
- Printing and exporting always use the styled version, whichever mode is on screen.
- Misspelled words are underlined in both modes. Right-click one for suggested spellings, or to add it to your dictionary.
Tip Typing Markdown symbols works in Styled Mode too. Type
## at the start of a line and it becomes a heading.Write Markdown without memorizing it.
